Controlled Assessment Two

The first controlled assessment constitutes 15% of the final GCSE mark and is in the style of a Decision Making Exercise (DME). The controlled assessment generally revolves around the sustainability of a given ecosystem such as ecotourism in the tropical rainforest.

The first phase of the controlled assessment is the research phase which lasts for 5 hours. During this time, pupils will need to research and learn about the topics that underpin the coursework and prepare for the field work.

The controlled assessment write-up phase consists of 4 hours in exam conditions. This is where the pupils will work at computers to complete their projects based upon what they have learnt during the research phase.
